When it comes to
social networking, there are many people who think solely of online
friendships or relationships. While this is the most common reason for
using social networking, social networking is also very useful for
promoting your website or blog.
You
may be wondering how you can go about use social networking to promote
your website or blog and you are not alone. A huge numbers of Internet
users aren't even sure what social networking sites are or how they
work.
Social
networking websites are basically online communities. They give users
an easy and pretty safe way to come together. Most social networking
websites are designed specially to make it easier for you to search for
and make contact with other Internet users, especially those users that
you actually have something in common with. Examples of social
networking sites are
MySpace - this is
the most well known and popular social networking site.
Orkut - this is
Google's version of social networking
Yahoo 360 - Yahoo's
version of social networkin, linked to Yahoo IDs.
Squidoo - allows
people to build their own "Lens" with information on whatever subject
they are interested in.
With
a large number of social networking websites, including MySpace, having
over a millions users, there is an excellent chance that you will not
only make some new friends, but also find Internet users that are be
interested in visiting your website, especially if your website is your
personal website. When you join an online social networking community,
you are normally given your own profile page. On this page you could
not only describe yourself, your website. By mentioning what your
personal online webpage is all about and providing a link, you should
receive a number of new visitors.
Social
networking websites can benefit all types of webmasters or blog owners,
but in particular those who are looking to make money from their
websites. If you have a website that is selling a product or a
services, you may find it a little easier to use social networking
sites to your advantage. The reason for this is that you can do product
or service spotlights. Every week or every month, you could showcase
one of your products or services. This could be done either on your
profile page or on a blog page, which most social networking websites
provide.
If
you are using your online website to make money in other ways e.g.
affiliate programs or Google Adsense, you will need to approach social
networking websites in a slightly different way. You may not
necessarily have a particular product or service to focus on, s you
will need to approach these websites as if they were personal websites.
If your website discusses being a cat owner, it may be a good idea to
state your love for cats in your profile. After doing so, it would be
quite acceptable and not necessarily considered as spam to add a link
to your website. As with all other types of websites, social networking
websites should help to increase the number of visitors that your
website receives. In the majority of cases, more visitors means more
money for you.
By
joining some social networking websites, especially ones that are
popular and have a large enough number of members, you should be able
to generate a good bit of interest in your website or blog. That
interest generated could turn into sales, making your social networking
experience worthwhile.
